Research Statement:
Air pollution from wildfire smoke and other industrial causes is a significant public health concern in the Pacific Northwest. Emerging research has identified a link between exposure to air pollution and adverse mental health outcomes. Therefore, my research aims to investigate the effects of various air pollutants on mental hospital admissions. I am learning how to use R studio in order to perform statistical analysis.
Research Impact:
Idaho ranks 48th out of 50 in the U.S. for mental health care accessibility and prevalence of mental illness. Idaho’s suicide rate is double the national average, placing an immense socioeconomic burden on the state. By focusing on specific pollutants and their psychological effects, my study can provide insights into how urban environments can impact mental health. This might help inform public health policies and urban planning strategies in the state of Idaho.
