Research Statement:
As a civil engineering student, I hope to bring my knowledge of hydraulics, hydrology, and environmental engineering to the understanding of dynamics and properties of river water and water treatment. I have a specific interest in environmental science regarding the qualities of river water and their effect on aquatic ecosystems. But considering my education, I would be researching the hydro- and thermodynamics of river water to then be interpreted through an environmental lens to dictate its implications for aquatic environments.
Research Impact:
Through my research I was able to contribute to the development of a computational model to simulate the heat transfer in a river over topography and time. These simulations have the potential to identify critical areas in rivers where temperature could impact the biological or chemical processes. This could impact the understanding of the river water quality and conservation/environmental work.
