Research Statement:
I have always wanted to do quantitative economic research. This summer, I had the opportunity to work with my mentor Dr. Karl Geisler on a research project titled “Spatial Analysis of Regional Economic Composition on Freshwater Usage in the US Counties”. Through this project, I gained valuable experience and knowledge in the field of advanced spatial econometrics. It also strengthened my passion for economics and quantitative research. This project helps me to further my knowledge to analyze real world datasets, apply advanced statistical and spatial econometrics techniques which helps to develop evidence-based solutions to complex economic challenges.
Research Impact:
While numerous studies have examined the relationships between industry and water usage, little information is available on regional economic composition of freshwater usage. The finding can help to improve the water management and make economic planning as well. Since Idaho is considered as one of the highest irrigation water withdrawals in US. Our research also highlights that agriculture have significant impact in the freshwater usage is US counties which helps to develop sustainable water management planning in Idaho in the near future.
