Research Statement:
My research interest is broadly in biomedical sciences. In particular, I am interested in research exploring cellular apoptosis and senescence as well as neuroplasticity. Principally, my interest in scientific research is anchored in a desire to explore and a propensity for unconventional problem-solving and supported by a genuine fascination with every facet involved in the process of discovery. My current research involves the application of biologically derived compounds in polymer synthesis with the hope of chelating critical materials such as lanthanides to recover otherwise wasted resources from mining runoff. Currently, my work is focused on optimizing polymerization conditions and extraction methodology.
Research Impact:
By utilizing a domestically available renewable resource—Idaho sagebrush—we can accommodate a scalable economic input to Idaho’s market as well as provide an option to remediate the national reliance on internationally imported rare earth metals.
