Research Statement:

I want to use my understanding of computer science, data analysis, and programming to help policymakers make better informed decisions concerning AI data center development in local communities. I am interested in furthering research about the usage of resources by large companies, such as AI data centers, to better understand the environmental implications at the local level. The aim of my research is to provide policymakers with data to manage economic and industrial growth while sustainably providing natural resources to local communities. During my undergraduate Summer Authentic Research Experience, I studied Meta's data centers' water and energy usage across their facilities to evaluate the impact data centers have on local resources in different climatic regions.

Research Impact:

Using the only publicly accessible data for AI data centers' natural resource usage, we quantified and analyzed the environmental impacts AI data centers have at the local level across different climatic regions. Our findings indicate other factors beyond climate, such as building architecture and mechanical cooling systems of AI data centers may have a great impact on resource usage, and highlights the need for more data on natural resource use of private industries.
