Research Statement:

I am interested in utilizing GIS technology and UAS (drones) in fieldwork. For this project, we had a focus in using these tools to measure streamflow. Our team had an interest in investigating methods that could be more time and cost effective. As an undergraduate researcher, I investigated ways to measure flow rate using photogrammetry and RTK systems. I focused on analyzing field data by using open source programs to create 3D models from drone images. These models were then used to measure the volumetric flow rate.

Research Impact:

Using 3D modeling and photogrammetry can have a significant impact on the way stream flow is measured. This method can collect more data, more efficiently and with less risk to the technicians. This will have an effect agriculturally and economically. With the ability to take more measurements, we can gain further insights about stream flow and how to manage it more effectively.
