Dr. Somerville is a technology development leader with over 30 years of experience in the semiconductor industry. She began her career as a photolithography process engineer and has, over the years, accepted various R&D leadership roles with increasing levels of responsibility.

Currently, Dr. Somerville leads a large global team within the Technology Products Group at Micron. The team is responsible for developing process, device, and mask technology crucial for the scaling of memory technology. The team’s work includes device characterization and modeling, photomask fabrication and development, mask design, information and product security, process safety and sustainability, industrial engineering, and operations management. This work supports technology development for Micron’s extensive factory network and Micron’s entire portfolio of memory and storage solutions.

Dr. Somerville earned a B.S. in chemistry from Utah State University and a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from Northeastern University in Boston. After working as a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University, she started her career at IBM in Burlington, VT and then joined Micron in Boise, ID. In recent years, Dr. Somerville has devoted time and energy to support Micron’s corporate social responsibility programs. She currently serves on the Micron Foundation Board and the board of directors for the Semiconductor Research Corporation. External to Micron, she dedicates time to university advisory boards and the boards of local non-profits.
