Research Statement:
I ultimately want to become an active and responsible member of the scientific community. I have a love for learning, and I understand the importance of learning from the organism that I am working with and finding unexpected questions and answers. As a member of Dr. Devaleena Pradhan's lab at Idaho State University, I was trained in and developed skills that were relevant to my research project. This project investigated the development of male typical morphology and parenting behaviors following sex-change in the Blue-banded goby. Through this experience, I have had the chance to utilize my acquired skills and fulfill my love for learning.
Research Impact:
Dr. Pradhan's lab at Idaho State University studies the Blue-banded goby, a haremic, sexually plastic, marine fish. I participated in an experiment that investigated the development of male typical phenotypes and parenting behaviors in this organism. Our findings may have application in the development of parenting behaviors and morphology among other vertebrates. Future research will also investigate the genetic expression of male-typical phenotypes, which may also have far reaching applications.
