Research Statement:
My research looks at how wildfires and prescribed fires affect the air we breathe, especially inside our homes. I focus on understanding specific chemicals like BTEX and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that these fires release. My goal is to figure out why indoor air often ends up with higher levels of these pollutants than outdoor air, even after a fire. As an environmental ecologist, I want to use this knowledge to raise awareness about the air quality in communities affected by smoke.
Research Impact:
This research is really important because it directly addresses the health risks linked to fire smoke, especially inside buildings where people spend most of their time. By showing how fire pollution gets indoors and builds up, my work provides crucial information. This can help guide public health warnings, improve air quality rules, and lead to better ways to protect communities. Ultimately, my research aims to make people aware on the hidden dangers that roam in wildfire smoke.
